VentMaster®
Orton invented downdraft venting over 12 years ago and it is the
standard used to vent electric kilns. With downdraft venting, gases
are pulled out of the kiln near the bottom of the kiln and then
mixed with room air and exhausted to the outside through a duct.
Downdraft venting systems are
considered better than hoods because they improve firing conditions
in the kiln while removing essentially all fumes from the kiln room.
VentMaster does not transfer any
vibration to your kiln, is capable of venting two kilns at once1 and
is easy to install!
The motor / blower is built from a
non-corrosive, lightweight plastic that allows you keep it on the
floor, or mount VentMaster to the wall!

|
Why
VentMaster?
During operation, the KilnVent system keeps the kiln under a slight
negative pressure. This pulls the fumes out of the kiln and pulls in
a small amount of fresh air. Firing times are essentially the same.
The fumes are exhausted directly into a duct system and removed from
the kiln room. Improved air flow in the kiln results in more uniform
temperatures, reducing hot and cold spots.
|
Health
and Safety Issues
OSHA has set standards for carbon monoxide exposure of 35 ppm (parts
per million) for long-term exposure and 200 PPM for short-term
exposure. Independent testing has shown that fumes near the kiln can
exceed 200 PPM near the kiln during the firing of greenware. This
can cause headaches, fatigue, sore throats and nausea. When properly
installed and operated, a downdraft vent removes ALL harmful fumes
and provides a safer working environment.
Regulations
Most states and localities have set venting requirements for firing
kilns in public places. Your local and state health board should
have this information. The Uniform Mechanical Code lists accepted
venting methods. The downdraft system made by Orton is listed in the
1992 approved Code. Orton downdraft vents have been certified by ETL
(Intertek Testing Services NA, Inc.), a Nationally Recognized
Testing Laboratory)
VentMaster has earned the right to bear the ETL mark in the US, CETL
in Canada and CE in European Markets.

VentMaster
All VentMasters include the main motor & blower housing,
one three foot high-temperature hose, one collector cup,
multiple hose clamps, installation instructions and sample
cones for test firing. VentMaster Motor can be kept on the
floor or mounted to the wall. If placement under kiln is
obstructed, the collector cup can also be attached to the
side of the kiln. MSRP: $470.00 |
VentMaster
Expansion Kit
This kit allows for another kiln to be vented to the same
VentMaster Blower, at a fraction of the cost of a new Vent.
The kit includes one additional collector cup, one three
foot high-temperature hose, and two hose clamps. MSRP:
$165.00

VentMaster
Hose Kit
This kit extends the distance between the blower motor and
the collector cup. The kit includes 1 additional three foot
high-temperature hose, a hose coupler, and two hose clamps.
This kit is excellent for mounting the vent higher on a wall
or further away from the kiln. (Maximum recommended length
between collector cup and motor blower is 25 feet). MSRP:

Vent-A-Kiln®
|
|
|
Vent-A-Kiln
This is a hood collection system
for electric kilns. Capable of venting air at a rate of 265 CFM. This
system depends on hot fumes rising out of the kiln and
collecting in the overhead hood. Because of air turbulence in the room
(from people walking, open windows, etc.), not all the fume will rise
directly into the hood. For this reason, hood collection systems are
unable to effectively remove all the fumes generated by the kiln, and a
variable portion will remain in the working environment. Hood-style
ventilation systems will remove a portion of the heat that the kiln gives
off, making for some increased comfort in the working conditions. This hood is excellent for assisting negative pressure systems in
controlling the larger volume of fume that can be generated by lusters,
china paints, and some wax resists.
Swinging Bracket Option: One hood
can be used to service two “side-by-side” kilns.
Note: 1654 uses 500 CFM motor and 6”
duct. All other units have 265 CFM motor and 4” duct.
Hoods are designed to be used with only 10’ of hose. Any additional pipe
or hose will reduce efficiency.
